Assets, assets, assets…and IoT

When one talks about assets and asset management the scope is almost unlimited. Therefor I would like to point out the possible IoT value for moving assets such as: People, Powered assets and non-powered assets. I will discuss these three moving assets one by one. In order to explain why it could be interesting for you and your company to explore the possible benefits of our solutions. This is not a coincidence since I’m working for a company selling these solutions on a broad scale to the industry. That makes me biased, of course, but also involved and educated on the topic. I will be starting with:

Powered assets:

Being able to remotely track and trace is almost a standard in the heavy equipment industry. Now the next generation is here. The location of the powered assets is by now a side issue. Up to 10 data streams can be collected with our M2M reporter. Also a direct CANbus connection is possible. Providing managers, planners and mechanics an overview on for example: battery level, crash sensor, overload, usage and much more.

Imagine what this means for a rental company. They don’t have to send out a mechanic when they can see remotely that the machine has not been charged. They can call right away when a crash is noticed via the crash sensor. And present a customer with access to the usage time and dates to avoid discussion. Record shows that the ROI is already delivered by only invoicing the accurate usage hours and then there are many more benefits.

In addition, when a mechanic does need to show up he will know in advance what parts he has to bring and how long it will take. This will help to accurately plan the next job.

With the transmitted data and the remote view on their powered assets we help our customers taking the step from “preventive” to “predictive” maintenance. It sounds like a small step but it is a giant leap in cost reduction and efficiency.
